Business Development Manager for Growth Initiative

Business Development Manager Virtual Director


Barco designs technology that makes everyday life a little better. Seeing beyond the image, we develop sight, sound, and sharing solutions to help customers work together, share insights, and wow audiences. By unlocking the creative power of technology, Barco Entertainment for instance delivers immersive experiences that "create moments, enrich lives". And as another example, our Education team enables successful virtual and hybrid teaching and training experiences. 


As a Barco start-up, Virtual Director is pioneering the use of Artificial Intelligence to produce such engaging and meaningful live experiences in existing and new markets for Barco.


Initiated by Barco Labs, and embraced by Barco Entertainment, we developed technology in-house to disrupt the live camera workflow and associated video switching. A proof-of-concept validated the value for the industry with first customers signed.


We are looking for an entrepreneurial business development leader to realize our growth ambitions with this new technology.



Key responsibilities



  • You are the end-to-end business owner to drive growth. You set the vision and strategy, including the commercial strategy, the marketing strategy and product strategy.
  • You define which markets / applications to go after first, and align your business model, marketing approach and product roadmaps accordingly.
  • You align with the product and engineering team to align your technology roadmap with your commercial strategy.



  • You develop the business in line with your strategy. You go after the first business deals. You develop a customer funnel, execute and close new deals.
  • As the business grows, you build the commercial and product team to accelerate growth.
  • You balance short-term customer needs with long-term market needs.
  • You present results and probe for steering from the growth governance board on a quarterly basis



Your profile



  • Master’s degree with strong on-the-job experience
  • Growth mindset: you have the will to push through pitfalls and get the initiative off the ground. You are a steady hands-on profile who is not discouraged when obstacles emerge.
  • Enterpreneurial track-record: Startup or corporate track-record of pushing through (disruptive) change on own initiative. Problem solver with small team leadership skills. Results oriented. Experience with recurring revenue based software services is a plus.
  • Commercial experience: you have several years of work experience in B2B sales, marketing and/or customer facing roles with strong negotiation skills.
  • Technical background: Technical or business technical degree to understand the customer and interact with the tech team
  • Customer centricity and customer experience mindset in all you do.
