Cable Design Engineer

Barco designs technology that makes everyday life a little better. Seeing beyond the image, we develop sight, sound, and sharing solutions to help you work together, share insights, and wow audiences. Our focus is on three core markets: Enterprise (from meeting and control rooms to corporate spaces), Healthcare (from the radiology department to the operating room), and Entertainment (from movie theaters to live events and attractions). With a team of over 3,300 employees, located all around the globe, we realized sales of 770.01 million euro in 2020.

Do you want to be part of the next generation of visualization products for the Entertainment market?

As cabling is key for our projectors, we are looking for a passionate electronics designer with high interest for 3D modelling mechanics SW tools to define and design the best cabling solutions. From small projectors up to huge cinema projectors we want to have the best implementation for our cabling.

To achieve this you will be active in the whole cable-design process, from selecting the appropriate connection system, through schematic entry of the different cables, routing the specific cables in the virtual prototype using Creo and setting up the identifications cards allowing to order the solution at the cable manufacturer and finally not to forget verifying the solution in the first prototypes.

Key responsibilities:

  • As cabling is connecting a lot of modules/functionalities with each other you will need to have a very good knowledge of how all the modules are interacting with each other - or in other words you need to have a good knowledge of the architecture of a projector.
  • You need to be able to work autonomously from idea to production on the cable-solution for a projector - however a lot of alignment will be needed with the different designers of the different boards in order to come to a solution.
  • Being hands-on is also a very important aspect of the function. It may often happen you have to build manually prototypes of cables - especially when first proto-types are built, where no virtual prototype is available. It may also help to speed-up the development process.
  • Designing complex wire harnesses is also part of the job - this can be manually on paper, or on wooden boards with nail-references.
  • Create detailed, understandable, drawings of wire-units & assemblies.
  • Assemble prototypes to test and verify your design together with product validation team.
  • Assisting designers in selecting the appropriate interconnection systems
  • Assist the process to standardize on the interface (re-use of solutions, interface compatibility safe-guarding)
  • As cable design work is coming with peaks in workload during the design-process you may also be involved in designing smaller circuits, sometimes making use of a microcontroller with limited functionality.
  • Provide estimates on effort, cost and lead times.
  • Contribute to weekly project meetings.

We are looking for a Barco colleague who:

  • You have a higher degree in Electronics.
  • Would like to work with 3D modelling SW packet for cable-routing
  • Ideally you have a relevant experience on the topic.
  • Experience with designing small circuits & programming of microcontrollers is also a plus - but not mandatory
  • You are able to work independently to solve practical problems
  • You have good knowledge of interconnection systems - power/communication/high speed
  • Being a skilled user of 3D solid modelling SW (ProEngineer/Creo preferred) is a plus
  • You are a teamplayer
  • You have a good knowledge of English.
