Data Architect

Key Responsibilities


  • As Data Architect, you will lead the Data Strategy, Modelling and Conceptualization at Barco:
    • Create/communicate enterprise Data Strategy & Roadmap
    • Steer Data Flow Modelling during new product releases (at product concept) 
    • Thought leadership on Data Technology and Data Integration Framework
    • Advise domain architects, BI and development teams on Data Modelling Techniques
    • Build a Data Reference Architecture to provide a pattern that others can follow to create and approve data systems
    • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses
    • Have a clear end-to-end vision, see how logical design will translate into one or more physical databases and how data will flow through the successive stages



  • You will be in the lead for Data Platform and Architecture definition:
    • Defining the Architectural Approach and Standards and select correct data sources
    • Designing together with the Integration Architect(s) Data Integration Protocols
    • Design Data Structures and defined Data Object Relationships (Data Taxonomy)
    • Set-up Data Management Platform (including step by step Data Strategy)
    • Build Business Models based on Conceptual, Logical, Physical Information Modelling



  • You will drive Data Operations:
    • Arbitrate between short-term business needs and long-term data architecture
    • Design and define Data Requirements in the end-to-end process (Data Ontology)
    • Define the Data Flows that need to be built between the different components
    • Drive the Data Lifecycle Management across applications & solution platforms
    • Design Data Maintenance Process (historical data, archiving, retention policies, …)
    • Lead the Data Platform and ecosystem Integration Process



  • As a member of the Barco Architect team and reporting into the Corporate Architect, you will drive consistency and efficiency in the long-term data architecture




  • You hold a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent and have at least five years of experience in a Data Architecture or Data Analysis position.
  • You use logical and analytical thinking to come up with creative and innovative database solutions.
  • You are fluent in English and like working in a truly international environment.
  • You also demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:
    • Communication and political savvy – You must be articulate, persuasive, good salesperson, be able to perceive and convey the big data picture to others.
    • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Attitude – You tackle problems by first evaluating them and thinking of several different potential solutions. You use critical thinking skills to deliver the most efficient solution based on database structure and requirements
    • System Development Knowledge – Understand System Development Lifecycle, Project Management approaches, requirements, design & test techniques
    • Understand emerging Data & Reporting Technologies – Have knowledge on relational SQL databases, columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data
    • Data Analytics and Data Mining Expertise – Show profound data mining, data analytics and database structure knowledge 
    • Result Oriented Mindset – you know how to meet deadlines and create efficient solutions that involve multiple teams (cf. in the context of new database implementations)
    • Change management skills - you can align stakeholders from different viewpoints and drive and convince them to move towards common standards
