Internship: Image processing research

Barco Healthcare has decided to broaden its activities, away from pure visualization solutions. For that purpose, a dedicated R&D team has been created. This team is performing research on an innovative new device that will be used for skin cancer imaging (https://www.barco.com/en/page/healthcare/demetra). We are confident that this new solution can result into earlier and more accurate diagnosis of skin cancer.


Barco Healthcare is continuously striving to make the workflow of doctors more efficient and to support them in making the correct diagnosis. These are two crucial factors when developing new products and visualization solutions.

 Since it is an important part of Barco’s core offerings, we have extensive knowledge on image processing. The last years Barco has extended this expertise from pure pixel processing to more global analysis of multi-spectral images. Research topics of interest are image registration, automated image quality assessment, contrast enhancements, etc.


Key responsibilities


  • You will be a fulltime member of the research team that investigates how to leverage image processing as an effective aid in the diagnosis by doctors.
  • You will work using an agile approach were you and the team quickly iterate over experiments to validate new ideas and techniques.
  • This internship offers the opportunity to cover multiple aspects of image processing product development, i.e. setting up fundamental experiments, providing support on clinical validation,  software development, etc.




  • You have knowledge of Python
  • You have knowledge of image processing and/or computer vision
  • You have hands-on experience with image processing packages such as PIL or OpenCV
  • Having knowledge of c/c++ is a plus
  • You have have an open and enthusiastic attitude
  • You are creative
  • You have an analytical and methodical thinking and way of working
  • You can write and speak English
