Internship - Bringing Next-Generation Color Management to Medical Imaging
Kortrijk, BE
How can we embrace the next generation of Windows color management while ensuring the color accuracy that professional and medical imaging applications depend on?
Color accuracy matters. Especially in professional and medical imaging, where displays and software need to work together to reproduce colors consistently and reliably.
With Microsoft introducing a new automatic color management framework, new possibilities are emerging to improve how colors are managed across displays and applications. At the same time, this evolution creates an interesting technical challenge: how do we integrate these new capabilities into an existing imaging ecosystem without compromising on color accuracy?
During this internship, you will explore how this new color management framework can be integrated across our professional display and software solutions.
You’ll combine software development, color science, system integration and hands-on experimentation to understand the new workflow and help translate it into a working solution.
What will you be working on?
Depending on the direction of your research and findings, you will:
- Investigate Microsoft’s new automatic color management framework and its technical requirements.
- Analyze what the new workflow means for professional displays, software applications and existing color-management processes.
- Prototype the adaptations needed to support the new framework across the ecosystem.
- Explore the generation and validation of compatible color profiles.
- Investigate display identification and capability reporting.
- Integrate color-management support into software tools and quality-assurance workflows.
- Design and perform experiments to validate color accuracy and overall system behavior.
- Document and communicate your findings and recommendations.
What do you bring?
We’re looking for a curious and technically minded student who enjoys exploring how software and hardware come together.
Required skills
- Good programming skills in Python and/or C++
- Interest in imaging technologies and software engineering
- Ability to understand technical documentation and scientific literature
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to design and carry out validation experiments
- Ability to clearly communicate technical findings
Nice to have
You don’t need to tick every box, but experience or interest in any of the following is definitely a plus:
- Color science and color management
- ICC profiles and color spaces
- Windows software development
- Image processing or computer graphics
- Software integration and system-level debugging
- Display technologies and calibration workflows
Why this internship?
This is a great opportunity if you want to work on a topic where software, displays and color science meet. Rather than working on an isolated proof of concept, you’ll look at the bigger picture and explore how an emerging technology can be integrated into a professional imaging ecosystem.
You’ll get the opportunity to turn research into prototypes, validate your ideas experimentally and contribute insights that can help shape how our solutions evolve
