Internship: Improving gaze tracking measurement setups

Background of Barco Healthcare

 

Barco develops high-precision medical display systems to bring enhanced visualization and diagnosis across the healthcare enterprise, including radiology, mammography, surgery, pathology, clinical review imaging and dentistry. Goal & Description of the project

 

Barco is currently creating setups to evaluate and develop eye tracking systems that can be integrated into displays. The goal is to track the location of the gaze on the monitor at all times. We have laid the groundwork for both a simulation setup and a hardware setup that can be started from. However much work still needs to be done to improve on these setups. The simulation environment works in Unreal Engine and most work needs to be done towards automating the process of rendering multiple gaze features and locations leveraging Unreals Metahuman. The physical setup takes the shape of a robotic head of which the direction of the eyes can be precisely controlled. The work would consist of integrating the robotic head into a data gathering setup. Furthermore, the ambient light has an impact on the pupilsize and hence also on any gaze tracking to be performed. There are 2 positions to fill this internship, one for the software aspect and one for the mechanical design aspect.

 

Required Skills

 

  • Programming Python /C /C++ (Unreal is a bonus)
  • Mechanical design (CAD / Fusion360 / Solidworks)

About internships at Barco

 

The Technology and Innovation group of Barco Healthcare specialises in designing, testing and validating new display technologies and imaging system components specifically for life-critical healthcare applications.

Internships within the Technology and Innovation group consist of 3 to 6 months working fulltime in the lab environment, interacting with the multi-national, multi-disciplinary R&D teams.

During your internship you will be guided by our engineers who are world-experts in the field of medical display image quality. You will have the possibility to work together with them to bring the future to today’s medical imaging technology.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to cutting edge research by applying your technical knowledge, and you will have ample opportunity and support for developing your industrial writing and presentation skills.
