Senior Software Development Engineer

About Barco Enterprise 
 
The Barco Enterprise division is at the forefront of innovation in the context of Barco’s digital transformation. Specifically, the Connected Media group develops a state-of-the-art, professional cloud software platform to securely process and distribute real-time, high-end media from a large number of sources towards a multitude of visualization points. Real-life applications where this platform is being used are e.g. digital operating rooms in large hospitals, interactive classrooms in business schools and universities, large control rooms and crisis centers …  
We are a growing, international team of about 150 people located in Kortrijk (Belgium), Noida (India), Sunnyvale (CA, USA) and Karlsruhe (Germany).
 
To strengthen our Nexxis OR (operating room) R&D team in Kortrijk we are looking for a committed Software Development Engineer.  The team is responsible for developing, monitoring and improving the quality of software that is developed for the Nexxis OR system. 

 


Function
 
The Senior Software Development Engineer develops software that runs either on our embedded devices or on PC platforms. He/she is responsible for creating high-quality SW deliverables in a timely manner, according to the state-of-the-art software methodologies and as part of the global solution software architecture, and for creating the automated test-cases to verify the quality of the software. As he/she will work in a medical device environment, processes apply to comply with the regulatory standards.
The Senior Software Development Engineer collaborates closely with the Software Development Engineers of our customers, which is critical for success.  He/she will be confronted with a large range of technologies, development languages, network elements, hardware components, etc.
 

 

What is Nexxis?


Nexxis is our video, audio and data-distribution system for the integrated OR. It is an IP-based, low-latency fiber-optic networked solution and combines various software and hardware building blocks that have to collaborate and integrate in a seamless way. Our customers integrate our product into their operating room solution, in order to deliver to the hospitals all over the world.

Key Responsibilities
 
As our SW Development Engineer you will...
 

  • analyze the product requirements and translate them into specifications and architectural designs 
  • support the software development life cycle and Agile development methodologies, specifically Scrum with Continuous Integration 
  • develop back-end logic and modern user interfaces  
  • optimize execution, robustness, and use of system resources 
  • be responsible for one or more software components 
  • collaborate with the testers to identify open issues 
  • keep track of bugs and fix open issues 
  • provide proficient documentation for the developed software modules 
  • support the creation of realistic development plans by estimating the necessary amount of work and time 
  • contribute to an atmosphere of cross-functional teamwork within the organization’s Agile project lifecycle

 


We are looking for a Barco employee who
 

  • holds a Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and working experience in software development  
  • is a strong conceptual thinker and able to lift the discussion to the right level of abstraction 
  • is attracted by system complexity and eager to find ways to get the related system quality under control 
  • is able to tackle quality management issues in an environment with up to date technology and methods (cfr. Automation) while keeping the bigger picture on system quality in mind. 
  • has at least 5 years’ experience with OO analysis and development in C++, software development, build, release and automation 
  • (knowledge of openGL, DirectX, Python, C, Java, JavaScript is a plus) 
  • has at least additional experience in two of the following domains: 
    • Network communication (TCP/UDP/…) and related security (SSL) 
    • Multiple platforms (Windows, Linux, …) 
    • Embedded software 
    • Test automation 
    • Virtualization 
    • Cloud architectures
  • likes to take initiative, work in close collaboration with fellow developers and share your ideas and knowledge 
  • possesses analytical skills and eye for detail and quality 
  • is communicative and assertive when required 
  • is fully conversational in English
