Internship: Ground truth data for fatigue detection in a non-intrusive manner

Function

 

In order to assist physicians in their diagnostic work, Barco monitors must be able to follow, understand and adapt to the task at hand. One aspect the display must monitor is the fatigue of its user. Many challenges exist regarding monitoring the fatigue of a person and is a commonly researched subject. Commonly, an EEG is used to estimate fatigue. However, a non-intrusive way of monitoring fatigue is required.  

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • You are responsible for defining a ground truth for fatigue detection from non-intrusive sensors. These sensors could include (but are not limited to) RGB and depth camera, gaze tracking, LIDAR, etc.
  • You will design experiments and measurement campaigns that deliver the required data. An evaluation of the required sensors and their possible added value will be made together with a study of which features can be monitored in a human to estimate fatigue. A preliminary model will be used to validate if the non-intrusive data can provide accurate fatigue information. 

 

Requirements

 

  • You need knowledge of Python and data science  

  • You need background in medical signal processing and data gathering 

  • If you are interested in electronic, sensing technology, AI and optics, it's a plus 

  • You have an open and enthusiastic attitude 

  • You are creative 

  • You have an analytical and methodical thinking and way of working 

  • You can write and speak English 

 

 

About internships at Barco

 

  • The Technology and Innovation group of Barco Healthcare specialises in designing, testing and validating new display technologies and imaging system components specifically for life-critical healthcare applications. 
  • Internships within the Technology and Innovation group consist of 3 to 6 months working fulltime in the lab environment, interacting with the multi-national, multi-disciplinary R&D teams.
