Patent Paralegal

Barco Labs facilitates the protection of Barco’s intellectual property by among other things filing for patents on our technologies. With an extensive patent portfolio, we are looking for a Paralegal who can manage deadlines for billing and office actions, pay bills, collect signatures for patent assignments and powers of attorney and disseminate, collect and communicate required information between external patent firms and Barco innovators in our global sites.

For this specific position, we are looking for a Patent Administrator. 


Key responsibilities:

You must have a strong understanding of patent filing and prosecution procedures, formalities, and documentation requirements, in particular for European Patent (EP) and Patent Coorperation Treaty (PCT) procedures, as you will be responsible for managing the patent portfolio of BARCO, by collaborating with external patent firms and foreign agents.  You will be responsible to generate the required assignments for the various jurisdictions and provide powers of attorneys when required. You will also manage the payment of invoices and renewal fees. 

You will also be responsible for importing the patent portfolio into a patent docketing software, including all deadlines, invoices, official communications, emails.  You will also be asked to generate necessary reports, dockets, and metrics.


Your profile:
•    You have 3 or more years experience working as a paralegal, ideally as a IP paralegal or certified formalities officer
•    You have a strong understanding of patent filing, prosecution procedures and formalities, with a focus on European Patent (EP) and Patent Coorperation Treaty (PCT) procedures
•    You are a pro-active, self-starting person with a can do attitude and great problem-solving skills.
•    You are meticulous, organized and have a solid attention to details 
•    You can work under continuous deadlines while managing multiple tasks simultaneously
•    You are able to work independently 
•    You have great written & oral communication skills (in English)
•    You have solid knowledge of MS Office programs
