LARCO Engineer - Risk Manager
Introduction
Have you heard of ‘LARCO’ before? Probably not! LARCO is the abbreviation used for the Legal, Audit, Risk and Compliance department, a team of professionals with a background in law and economics. This team is exposed to all facets of Barco’s day-to-day operations from innovation, R&D, product design, operations over marketing, sales, services to M&A, IP disputes or financial and non-financial reporting. Now why would this team look for someone with an engineering background?
Well, today’s world has become increasingly complex with a high degree of digitization and an expanding regulatory framework. As a technology company, Barco must know how to navigate in this complex world. The LARCO engineer sits at the crossroads of technology, on the one hand, and law and economics, on the other hand. He or she has a basic understanding of both worlds, sees where they are connected and how they interact. He or she speaks the language of each world and can translate in both directions.
Job scope:
The LARCO Engineer will be a fully-fledged member of the Legal, Audit, Risk and Compliance department dealing with matters such as:
- Risk management
- Further develop and implement the methodology to identify, analyze, evaluate, mitigate and report top risks. Guide and perform risk assessments, evaluate their potential impact, and tailor reports to the relevant audience. The top risks are the ones that could impact the financial standing, security and reputation of the company and the safety of its employees. These risks include those pertaining to factories, manufacturing processes, product quality, supplier dependency, information technology, cybersecurity, environmental, social, and governance.
- Crisis response
- Manage crisis response procedures, ensure the creation and maintenance of business continuity and disaster recovery plans in case of natural disasters, cyberattacks or employee emergency situations. Build risk awareness among staff through support and training.
- Insurance
- Assist with the annual renewal of the global business-related insurance program with underwriters, conduct on-site property surveys with the insurer’s risk engineer, management of the insurance broker relationship, claims handling and issuance of certificates of insurance.
- Product classification
- Develop and implement the methodology for commodity codes for products and components, de minimis calculations, determination of dual use technology, Backup for export control and denied parties’ screening in SAP GTS
- Audit
- Translate audit objectives and concerns to the business, provide context and promote a risk-aware culture, enhance the audit team's understanding of Barco’s risk landscape, particularly in the highly technical domains relevant for Barco’s operations.
- Windturbine development
- Assist with the development of the windturbine project on the Kortrijk site (business case, JV agreement, power purchase agreement, construction, alternatives for excess production, …).
Required Competencies:
- Master’s degree in electrical, mechanical or construction engineering
- At least 10 years post-qualification experience in a senior position within an international company.
- Understanding or willingness to develop expertise in risk management practices and business-related insurances.
- Fluent in English, spoken and written knowledge of any other European language is a plus
- Good understanding of quality, environmental, information security, and other management systems.
- Knowledge of MS office and other IT tools (SAP-GTS, S4Hanna, ServiceNow, …)
- Solution-directed, strong analytical skills, and E2E continuous improvement attitude.
- Team player with sound judgment, a high level of diplomacy and integrity, and a good sense of humor.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including at the level of the CLT and audit committee.
