Key Responsibilities:
 
1.    DEFINING THE GLOBAL COMPONENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGY:

  • Contribute to process definition and deployment of Barco’s component management approach, creating long term vision and strategy.
  • Develop and maintain close relations with manufacturers and suppliers with regards to technology roadmaps, product roadmaps, tendencies in the market, technical & certification information, sustainability compliance, FAE networks, etc. 
  • Define and roll out the component management strategy per component basket for Barco worldwide, together with R&D, product management and procurement.
  • Fully aligned with the commodity procurement strategy by aligning component specifications/requirements with future product specifications/requirements across product lines.
  • Gain deep understanding of current and new technologies and technological evolutions to continuously challenge and refine our component strategies to provide competitive and cost-effective solutions. Hence becoming the trusted advisor to Barco’s global R&D, product teams and procurement managers on component technology.
  • Management & optimalisation of the preferred manufacturers by rationalizing and assessing new candidates to replace non-performing ones.
  • Asses new manufacturers with regards to alternative requirement for continuous component availability during required life cycle of products.

 

2.    EXECUTING THE COMPONENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGY:

  • Translate the component management strategies into a future proof and up-to-date component basket with the aim of maximizing component reuse across product platforms, increasing efficiency and minimizing component cost.
  • Influence supplier roadmaps by informing suppliers about our future function/feature requirements.
  • Perform periodic in-depth risk analyses and lifecycle assessments on the component baskets and formulates recommendations to the respective BU component engineers, R&D and product teams to mitigate potential (future) component lifecycle risks or opportunities.
  • Work with the global R&D teams on selecting the right components for their designs through proactive and early involvement in design cycles.
  • Monitor and manage the lifecycle, technical and non-functional technical information such as certificates (Green, Commodity Codes, COO, ECCN, FMDs, Safety Certificates), simulation models and etc…
  • Advise R&D and procurement on component-related functional and technical questions.
  • Support Commodity Procurement managers in preparation for and during Business Review meetings with suppliers.
  • Proactively search and qualify alternative components (multi-source).
  • Support the cost & value engineers towards cost effective products (PBA’s, mechanics, …) by installing component basket.
  • Support in Last Time Buy decisions by aligning with the BU component engineer.
  • Communicate to all stakeholders and present achievements and recommendations to Barco R&D and business unit management.
  • Organize in-house manufacturer workshops, roadmap reviews, seminars, trainings, demo’s for the engineers.
  • Launch discontinuation & change notifications by proposing alternatives when available & no major supply problems due to unexpected product discontinuations.
  • Assure the component creation by the data administration is compliant with Barco’s Counterfeit Avoidance procedure.
  • Other tasks assigned by the reporting manager.

 
Education:

 

1.    MSc degree in electrical engineering, or equal by experience.
2.    Additional training in component management and/or strategic sourcing is a plus.

 

Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 3 years of Component engineering experience in a design environment or equivalent.

 

Competencies:

 

  • Component management experience both in process and technical aspect.
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic / electro-mechanical components.
  • Experience with Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) related processes.
  • Category portfolio management experience.
  • Being a role model: ability to stimulate, inspire and empathize.
  • Able to work in and across global organizations, service-oriented, independent & result driven team player.
  • Good English ability both in oral & written.
  • Can build and maintain relations and skilled in communication.
