The Barco Labs Healthcare Innovation team is dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare. This multidisciplinary team—comprising technical experts and researchers, commercial strategists, and clinical expertise —are constantly looking to develop solutions that improve patient care and healthcare models.

In close collaboration with hospitals, healthcare providers, patients, and regulatory bodies, we guide innovations through the entire development cycle. From ideation and MVP definition to market evaluation, business case creation, R&D, and clinical validation, our team ensures that each solution meets the highest standards. We manage every step, from the creation of proof-of-concepts and market validation to commercial introduction and early-stage sales, making sure our innovations have a lasting impact on the healthcare industry.

 

Purpose of the job
This position is part of a strategic initiative related to digital pathology and AI in healthcare. Together with a team consisting of researchers, developers, product managers and clinical experts, you will be able to contribute to the future of healthcare.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsible for the end-to-end AI training flow, from data ingress to model compilation.
  • Efficient data handling in the pathology domain, where a single image surpasses gigabytes in volume.
  • Enabling, maintaining, and optimizing a continuous training flow for various machine learning networks.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize data annotation strategies catering to the various needs from different stakeholders such as pilot sites, product owners, researchers, etc.
  • Monitoring AI evolution, ensuring incremental improvements without negatively impacting existing customers or subpopulations. This involves both AI outcomes, computational resources, latency, etc.
  • Implement iteratively and in close collaboration with internal and external (clinical) partners, first-of-a-kind prototypes and proof of concepts.
  • Stay up to date with new academic, international standardization, regulatory, and commercial developments and trends in healthcare imaging and visualization applications.
  • Share and interact around these insights with your peers.

 

We are looking for a new colleague who

  • Has at least a Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent in combination of education and experience.
  • Has a profound knowledge of Python and at least one of the most important machine learning frameworks (Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch …)
  • Has experience in Linux software development environments (git, Docker …).
  • Has proven experience in all aspects of AI engineering: data import, annotations, machine learning network training, etc.
  • The following is a plus:
    • 2+ years of experience in AI development / MLOps.
    • Experience in a healthcare context or other highly regulated industries is a plus.
    • Experience with computer vision classical image processing, cloud computing, pipeline orchestrators and/or parallel processing
    • Basic knowledge of medical imaging applications, such as digital pathology, mammography, radiology & surgical imaging.
  • Has a hands-on and can-do mindset.
  • Works thoroughly and can work independently and with great perseverance towards a result that meets the requirements and constraints, that is evaluated and documented and meets the quality level expected in a healthcare context.
  • Is pro-active, takes initiative and shows end-to-end problem ownership.
  • Is a team player, working in close collaboration with the R&D team to further improve overall quality.
  • Language skills: English (fluent), Dutch is a plus.
