Mechanical Development Engineer– Immersive eXperiences

The function

Barco is seeking a Mechanical Development Engineer for its Immersive eXperiences Business unit in Kortrijk.

 

If you're passionate about applying your mechanical engineering expertise to high-end solid-state illumination products (laser, LED, phosphor) that set industry standards in projection technology, then this position is perfect for you.

You'll join an international team of enthusiastic developers from Belgium, Norway, China, and USA.

 

Key responsibilities 

As a mechanical engineer for Barco IX projectors, your primary focus will be contributing to the mechanical design and development of our projectors and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The aim is to develop products that meet specifications while ensuring reliable production and consistent performance under specified operating conditions and environments.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Design mechanical components and systems using CAD tools (Creo).
  • Develop components using various techniques such as sheet metal fabrication, molding (plastics and light alloys), machining, 3D printing, and welding for optimal designs.
  • Fundamental understanding of Creo Simulate to enhance the topology of your mechanical design.
  • Design mechanical submodules such as heat sinks, cold plates, and air ducts for thermal engineering, and conduct simulations in FLOEFD to assess your design at both module and system levels.
  • Perform and document mechanical R&D test plans, including thermal testing.
  • Finalize and release component designs and associated documentation, including 2D technical drawings.
  • Implement engineering changes for new and existing product designs.
  • Collaborate with the team to build engineering prototype projectors.
  • Identify issues or deficiencies and propose effective solutions.
  • Ensure product compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Actively contribute to weekly project meetings.

 

Profile

  • Master's degree in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering.
  • At least three years of experience in developing or building mechanical systems (or equivalent expertise).
  • Proficient in CAD software; familiarity with Creo or Windchill is highly desirable.
  • Experience in key manufacturing processes, including:
    • Sheet metal fabrication
    • Plastic injection molding
    • Die casting
    • Machining
  • Ability to run simulations in Pro/ENGINEER, FLOEFD and interpret test data (mechanical, thermal, etc…).
  • Interest in thermal engineering and mechanics of materials is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English and/or Dutch.

  • Willing to travel occasionally to Barco locations, suppliers, or customers worldwide.
