Research Engineer

In Barco Labs a team of highly skilled experts explores new technologies and builds first-of-a-kind proof of concepts for established and new markets. We combine cutting-edge technologies with cross-domain creativity and spark new internal start-ups that bring product concepts to customers. We challenge ourselves to stay on top of the state-of-the-art and investigate innovation tracks towards immersive audio-visual experiences.

As a research engineer, you

• You enjoy working with and exploring new technologies
• Are an outcome-oriented expert, you seek to in-depth understand end-user problems and think of innovative solutions
• Stay up to date with the technological developments and trends in computer science, and visualization applications
• Implement iteratively and in close collaboration with internal and external partners, first-of-a-kind prototypes and proof of concepts
• Share and interact around your insights with peers
• Are a team player, you collaborate with your peers, internal stakeholders and external partners to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to challenging problems

We’re looking for a colleague who has

• A master's degree in computer science or a closely related field or equivalent through experience
• Strong engineering interpersonal skills: discuss technical ideas effectively with colleagues, through whiteboard, design sessions, presentations or interact directly with our pilot users
• A background in software engineering in modern languages like C/C++, Python, TypeScript, ... and the matching language ecosystems
• Experience with software engineering tooling and best practices like CI/CD
• Experience with Linux platforms, embedded systems, ...
• Experience with image processing and related hardware acceleration like GPUs (CUDA, Vulkan, OpenGL, shaders, ...)
• Experience with media streaming, media codecs is a plus
