Location:

Kortrijk, BE

At Barco Immersive Experiences (IX), we combine a passion for technology with a spirit for creativity. Our technologies create unforgettable visual experiences in live events, museums, theme parks, simulation environments, and other high-impact applications. From inspiring visitors at international light festivals to powering the world's leading concert stages and immersive attractions, our engineers bring cutting-edge projection technology to life.

Our R&D teams develop advanced video projection systems based on Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology and solid-state illumination sources, including lasers, LEDs, and phosphor-based systems. As part of our international engineering organization, you will collaborate with colleagues across Belgium and China to shape the next generation of professional projection solutions.

The function

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer Electronics to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and maintenance of high-speed digital electronic systems for advanced DLP-based video projection systems.

You will work throughout the complete product lifecycle, from concept and architecture definition to product validation, manufacturing support, and maintenance of existing hardware platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong expertise in high-speed digital design with practical experience in FPGA-based systems, microcontrollers, component selection, and hardware lifecycle management.

Key responsibilities

The role focuses on high-speed video control electronics and control boards for fans, motor drivers, and solid-state illumination systems based on lasers, LEDs, and phosphor light sources. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will develop reliable, efficient, and high-performance electronic solutions that help deliver innovative video projection systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Design high-speed digital electronic circuits and multilayer PCBs for DLP-based projection systems.
  • Create schematics and support PCB development using Siemens Xpedition.
  • Develop robust hardware architectures for complex electronic subsystems involving FPGA and microcontroller-based designs.
  • Design and integrate high-speed interfaces such as DDR memory, Ethernet, USB, and other serial communication interfaces.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB design reviews, and signal integrity assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with FPGA engineers and support FPGA-based hardware implementations.
  • Contribute to microcontroller-based system design, debugging, and validation activities.
  • Select electronic components based on technical performance, availability, cost, and product lifecycle considerations.
  • Monitor component longevity, availability, and obsolescence risks using Silicon Expert and other lifecycle management tools.
  • Participate in hardware bring-up, debugging, verification, and system-level validation during development.
  • Work closely with software, FPGA, optical, mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Ensure designs meet EMC, EMI, reliability, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Support transition from development to manufacturing and production.
  • Maintain, improve, and support legacy hardware platforms used in existing projector product lines.

Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 – 6 years of experience in electronic hardware design.
  • Proven experience designing high-speed digital electronics.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC/EMI design principles.
  • Experience developing hardware platforms based on FPGAs and/or microcontrollers.
  • Good working knowledge of VHDL and FPGA development flows.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Good knowledge of electronic components, including selection, qualification, sourcing, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
  • Practical experience in system debugging, validation, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Experience with DDR memory architectures, Ethernet, USB, and other high-speed interfaces.
  • Familiarity with simulation, timing analysis, and signal integrity tools.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT).
  • Programming experience in Python, C, or C# for test automation and debugging.
  • Experience working in high-reliability or industrial electronics environments.
  • Understanding of solid-state illumination systems using lasers, LEDs, or phosphor technologies.
  • Proficient in English and/or Dutch to collaborate successfully in a multidisciplinary and international environment.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, innovative, and results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Detail-oriented, quality-conscious, and cost-aware.
